Studebaker

Weaver Consultants Group was retained by the City of South Bend to provide comprehensive environmental oversight in the planning and implementation phases associated with the demolition of seven industrial manufacturing buildings totaling over 2.5 million square feet.  The work was conducted between 2005 and 2012.  The buildings sat on the grounds of the former Studebaker Corporation, an auto manufacturer, and housed the former Studebaker foundry, and engine assembly, metal stamping, and final assembly plants.

The space is under redevelopment by the City of South Bend for a technology park called Ignition Park.  The tasks completed included preparing environmental specifications, regulatory reporting, sampling and testing of various nonhazardous and hazardous waste streams and media, and management of areas of environmental concern including petroleum and chemical underground storage tanks, asbestos, PCBs, buried fill, foundry waste, and removal of impacted soil.
